Pediatric Chiropractor Williamson County: Parents' Questions

A mom sits across from me with her three-week-old and says, "I just want to know if this is safe." Maybe feeding has been tough, your baby always turns her head the same way, or your toddler took a tumble off the couch. Wanting good answers before you book anything is exactly the right instinct.

The quick answer: Pediatric chiropractic care is a gentle, hands-on approach that looks at how your child's spine and nervous system are moving. It's meant to work alongside your pediatrician, never in place of them, and a visit should never feel rushed or forceful.

What does a pediatric chiropractor actually do?

I start by watching how your child moves and holds themselves: head position, posture, how they settle when you pick them up, and where they seem tense or guarded. Parents often tell me about a head-turning preference, fussiness during tummy time, or a bumpy fall. Older kids come in after a growth spurt or a tumble on the playground, and every child gets an exam that fits their age.

Then I use very light, age-appropriate touch to support healthy movement. My job is to assess, listen, and care for your child's body. It is not to diagnose medical conditions.

What happens at the first visit?

We talk before we touch anything. I'll ask about the birth, feeding, sleep, milestones, and what brought you in. You're with your child the whole time, and we go at their pace. A hungry baby gets a feeding break, and a nervous five-year-old gets time to warm up.

You'll leave knowing what I found, what I recommend, and what I'd suggest you watch for at home. There is no pressure to decide anything that day. Some parents book right away, and others take a week to think it over, and both are completely fine.

Is it safe, and will it hurt?

This is the question I hear most, and I'm glad parents ask it. The pressure I use with babies and young children is far lighter than most people expect, and care is adapted to each child's age, size, and comfort. I watch your child's face and body the whole time, and if they're distressed, we pause. A good visit is calm for both of you. If I think another provider should see your child first, I'll tell you plainly.

Who else should be on my child's team?

In my experience, kids do best with a team. Your pediatrician is your child's primary medical home. Lactation consultants, pediatric physical and occupational therapists, and feeding specialists do wonderful work too, and I'm happy to coordinate with any of them or refer you to one when that's the better next step. Caring for a child works best when everyone is on the same page, including you.

How I care for kids

Many of the families I see started with me during pregnancy, so by the time they bring their baby in, we already know each other. My approach is gentle and unhurried. I'm Webster certified and Perinatal certified, and I draw on sacro-occipital technique (SOT), cranial work, and Activator, adapted to each child's size and age. I'd rather take an extra few minutes to understand your child than rush through a visit. I want you to feel informed and comfortable, and I want your child to feel safe in the room.
